Gia Lai Robusta Coffee Farm of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bien

Gia Lai Robusta Coffee Farm of Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bien grows TR4 Robusta at 860 m above sea level in Gia Lai province, in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. It is the highest Robusta farm in our partner network.

The region
Gia Lai is one of the main Robusta provinces of Vietnam's Central Highlands, and its farmers are increasingly turning to fine Robusta, which is opening new export routes for the province's coffee.

Soil and climate
Like the rest of the Central Highlands, Gia Lai has a tropical monsoon climate, with a rainy season from around May to October and a dry season from November to April. Most coffee in the region grows on red-brown basalt soils, which are deep, loose and well drained. Coffee blossoms in March and April, and the cherries ripen in the dry months at the end of the year.

Trees and variety
Around 200 trees of the Robusta clone TR4 grow across 0.2 hectares. They were planted in 2024. TR4 is one of the high-yielding Robusta clones bred by the Western Highlands Agriculture and Forestry Science Institute (WASI). It ripens in the dry season, which makes harvesting and drying easier.

Farming
Mr. Bien farms naturally. The trees are fed only with organic fertilisers, and grass is grown between the rows to keep the soil moist and protect it from erosion.

Processing
Cherries are processed natural (dry) and sorted to screen 16–18.
