Nature favours Pleiku: red basalt soil and abundant water feed coffee gardens that stretch to the horizon and give the beans a rich, distinctive character.
Origin: Pleiku, Gia Lai
Pleiku, Gia Lai is one of the best places in Vietnam to grow Robusta. The coffee we source here is consistently good: the trees are less prone to disease and thrive in the climate, the fertile soil and the altitude. At an average of 800 m above sea level, on red basalt soil and in a humid tropical climate, Pleiku produces Robusta with a strong, chocolate-like bitterness, a honey note and a sweet aftertaste.
- Soil: red basalt
- Altitude: about 800 m above sea level
- Average temperature: 22–25 °C
- Average rainfall: 1,853 mm per year
Harvest & process
At least 75% of the cherries are fully ripe at picking; the lot is cleaned and sorted for consistent commercial use.
Natural process: whole cherries are dried in the sun with the fruit still on, giving a fuller body and deeper sweetness.
In the cup
Bold and bitter with low acidity.
For roasters
This is green coffee, so the roast is yours. A light roast keeps the fruit and acidity, a medium roast balances sweetness and body, and a dark roast brings out the chocolate and bitterness. Tell us how you plan to use it and we will suggest a starting profile.
